Tuesday, October 20:
We were over on the east side of town, that means the other side of The 101, taking care of some business when we passed this Holiday Home decked out for Halloween. Hahaha, what's a boy to do? I stopped, grabbed my camera and got me some pictures!!
And then, because I'm a fun kinda guy, I went back later when the sun was setting and got me some more pictures. Hahaha, I know!! Slow down, Speed Racer!! It's life in the fast lane for me, all the time!!
So what you'll see is the daytime shot and then, immediately following, the nighttime shot. Hahaha, stay up with me if you can!!
As a bonus, I'm gonna give you a sneak preview of the Halloween card I'm posting on All Hallow's Eve. Keen fun, y'all!!
The Grim Reaper.
Looking a bit more imposing and ominous at night.
The skull, with a couple of spiders...
...and at night. Looks a bit jollier at night, doesn't he.
An old time hearse and a musical wagon. Skeletons seem to be dominating these two scenes.
And at night. Hard to make out here but it's nicer at night.
The Portals to Hell...with an eerie Jack-O-Lantern as your reward.
Looks like a character out of a Tim Burton movie, eh!?!
Unfortunately, they parked the family car in front of this guy so all I got for my night shot was the head.
And here's the spooky part!! I have no idea where those 'eyes' came from. Look at the picture above, there's nothing there that could be those eyes.
I know, spooky!!
The fence. Not looking too cool...now.
It looks a bit better with the lights on, doesn't it!
And I did get a wide view. I didn't get everything, though. There's a large black cat off to the right and you're missing Tim Burton's guy. But I got most of it.
Night time. Pretty cool display for Halloween, eh!?! And I say that knowing, once again, the porch light over my door will definitely be off again this year.
Once we got home I still had the camera and it was a kinda nice sunset and...there I went.
From the bluff looking out over the Pacific Ocean. A pleasant evening with little wind
And I swung a bit to the left and got a picture with the Hardy Boys Mystery House.
I've always wanted to do a series of pictures of a neighborhood illuminated by streetlights. I've wanted to do this for a while now but living where I did the past eight years, in Rainier Beach, it wasn't really safe to be out and about taking pictures with a semi-expensive camera. I sorta forgot about it....until now.
The camera has a feature where you set it for nighttime shooting and it takes three shots and then squeezes them together into one for a clear, as clear as you can get, picture. Don't ask me any more cuz I have no idea how that would work.
It's like Soren Kierkegaard's leap of faith...I have no empirical data that this feature of the camera actually works and yet I am willing to accept that every one of their claims are true and really do improve the picture.
Hahaha, I am simple like that. Or, maybe, this is an example of a paradox like Schrodinger's Cat. The picture is both good and bad until I get it and deem it one or the other.
Wait, I'm getting a headache. Excuse me, I am going to go and lie down for a bit.
Wednesday, October 21
In the gentle flow that is now my life, there are ripples and eddys. Some of my own doing and others that are introduced into the steady stream that is my life now that I've finally attained...retirement.
Such was our Wednesday. We were moving steadily along when Michael and Bron introduced a small, pleasant disturbance into the flow.
Lunch!! At McMenamins!! Woo, woo!!
And it was a great day for a lunch. The restaurant is only a half-mile away, just beyond the Casino, and so we decided to walk on over. And I had my camera.
There's always someone walking along NW Jetty Avenue. Always. And over 50% of the time they have a dog with them.
Alas, no dog for us but we did meet up with a batch of orb weaver spiders busily engaged in their quest for lunch and dinner. Honestly, I only take pictures of these spiders for Carol. I think I've said it before but when it comes to arachnids, I am a total chicken...a complete Foghorn Leghorn.
If one of them were to get on my arm I would very quickly find my long-lost ability to sprint and you would see me running down the road, arms waving and a high, keening scream following in my wake.
It would not be one of my proudest moments.
Ack!! Enough about spiders.
McMenamins is located in the Lighthouse Square Shopping Center. It's where the Dollar Tree is. So, obviously, I know how to get to the restaurant. Hahaha, I am so predictable.
Thar she blows!!
Hahaha, does that lighthouse look a bit familiar? It should, you just saw it.
Folks round here have a strong appreciation for all things nautical. It's a beach thing.
As was Mike's dinner. Oyster shooters!! Buy five and get the sixth one free!! Bron got some steamer clams for lunch. These two are ideally situated for their culinary tastes here along the beach.
There we all are!!
I do need to work on my group selfie shots. Yes I do.
When Mike had Round Two of the Shooters, he offered one to Carol. Here she is scoping out the choices to get the very best one.
Consensus? Tres Tasty!!
Mmmmmmm....
Carol also had her Fish 'N Chips and I, equally predictable, ordered a Rueben. It was De-Lish!! And they thoughtfully put the Thousand Island on the side. The pastrami and the sauerkraut are stand alone tastes. They don't need any help in the tastiness department.
It was good. We had a good meal and a good time with some good friends. What more could you ask for?
Oh, yeah, here's your sneak peek of the bonus pic...
Life is, as you well know, good.
Hooah!!
