Today we went on the Rock & Walk with Tom and Bonnie as part of Harvey's Team. The walk was put on by The Tears Foundation. This Foundation reaches in to help families who lose an infant with money, love, assistance, empathy and whatever else they can do to help.
They were a huge help for Tom and Bonnie and, as a result, both have gotten deeply involved with the Foundation's work.
Tom and Bonnie organized a Team to walk for Harvey during this event. Here's Tom and Bonnie looking for other members of Harvey's Team
I got to participate and even got to do a little bragging.
"Hey!! I'm Harvey's Grandpa!! Hooah!!"
The entire field was ringed with these hand-made butterflies. Every baby got one...
I was struck by how many of them there were…way too many of them.
They scrolled the names of the babies across the tote board around the outfield.
And they posted pictures submitted by the families on the Scoreboard. Here's Bonnie, Tom and Harvey.
There was a good crowd there, celebrating their babies and helping each other.
Here's Harvey's Team. This was during the opening exercises.
Here's the whole crew at the end of the walk.
Rhubarb, the Tacoma Rainiers mascot, showed up and led a run around the bases for all the kids.
There's Anthony hot-footing it from First to Second.
Haha, even Tom got in on the fun as they rounded Third and headed towards Home.
Then the families came onto the field and walked around the field.
It was a poignant moment…seeing all the babies' butterflies.
Harvey was along the first base line between Home and First. Tom got some pictures of Harvey and his Big Brother.
Here's Harvey's butterfly. I like the red.
Harvey James Seagrove
Then everyone took a second walk around the field. There was just so much to see.
All the butterflies...
It was a nice opportunity to talk and remember and love.
That's Harvey's Butterfly there, by Anthony just a bit left of center.
Meeting friends...
One of Harvey's Team put his initials on the back of her shirt. The one Tom is wearing was sent to him by Allie. She had them special made for Harvey.
She has the positive of Harvey's initials and he has the negative. Look hard and you'll see the initials, HJS.
Tom, Anthony and Harvey.
"Wanna run the bases again? I do!!"
That's Tom just below Harvey's name.
They did a nice job of remembering these babies.
Each of the butterflies were hand-made…with a lot of love.
It was a good event and I am so glad I was able to participate in it. Thanks to the folks at Cheney Stadium who made their facilities available, to the sponsors of this event and to The Tears Foundation for all the good things you do.
Hooah!!
