Cedar River Picnic - 8/23/14

Or - Have You Ever Seen a River Walk?

It's Summer, what are you gonna do? Take in the days and enjoy the sunshine, the cool breezes and the fresh air.

Looking for a bit of change from our park, today we went to picnic along the Cedar River. The City of Renton has a walk along the East side of the River and it is pleasant and cool.

We picked out a suitable spot and settled in with some old tunes on the radio and a couple of sandwiches for lunch.

And a great view. We watched the ducks and kids riding their tubes float on downstream.

And I played with my camera.

Candids.

The jury is still out on just what this quacker is. We know she is a duck but we haven't yet found out what kind, exactly, she is.

For now we're calling her Lucille Ball for obvious reasons.

She's got a red head and she's just a little bit quackers.

Hahahahaha…I 'quack' myself up!!

The views along the river are great.

Just right for spending a lazy afternoon listening to tunes and reading a book or working a puzzle.

After a while, we took a walk heading down the river to where it empties into Lake Washington.

And, of course, I was on the look-out for anything interesting.

And I lucked into this shot.

It's a BEE!!

Here's where the river drains into the Lake. Boeing has built a bridge across the river to accommodate their plant. In fact, the side of the River that we're on is thin strip of land belonging to the city. Everything else, on both sides, belongs to Boeing.

But folks can use the River. They have a small boat launch just to the left of where we're standing. And, if you look carefully, you'll see someone enjoying the cool river water lounging on a inflatable raft.

See him?

You will.

You have to walk over the road to the...

Renton Rowing Center!!

You can rent kayaks here to use on the Lake.

This is the first time I've noticed this building. It's been there forever but I guess I've always thought it was just another Boeing Building.

They've got a pier around the other side with areas for folks fishing. And there were a lot there fishing today.

From in front of the Renton Rowing Center you can see across to our park. There's the park just behind the windsock.

Guess where we're going to be next week? Yep!! We're gonna try out a couple of kayaks and see if we like them.

Course, that's if the tiny little things will float with my rather ponderous heinie in it.

It would be embarrassing to have it sink…

...10 feet away from the pier.

Very embarrassing.

And, as always, there are the seaplanes. Always.

And, as always, I am fascinated by them.

There's the picnic area in Coulon. We've been there. In fact, we're already looking forward to visiting the park when the leaves begin to change color in the Fall.

It's a pretty little park there. With picnic tables and grills and...

…little bunny rabbits.

We see the wildest things in this town.

(pun intended, hahahahahahaha)

Along the River Walk. Here's where the Boeing employees have to come to get their cigarette breaks. Well, it could be worse, I guess.

I still remember, fondly, the days when I could smoke anywhere I wanted. Ah, those golden memories.

Remember that guy that was lounging on a rubber raft?

Here he is.

Oh, man, don't he look comfortable.

And he has a cooler floating along with him. You can just see the tip of it above the oar on his right.

Ah, the good life.

A good lunch, some quality time enjoying life and a nice walk. Plus, we learned where the River Walk actually went to AND we found the Renton Rowing Center!!

All in all, life is good.

Hooah!!
