Picnic at Our Park, Part II - 8/20/14

Or - It's a Small, Small World…

Well, maybe not that small. Here's a good look at the view we get each time we come to our park. Mercer Island to the left and on the right is Coulon Park and I-405.

OK, quick review…we covered these wispy clouds the other day. What are they called?

Cirrus Clouds? Yeah!! Good!! You did listen, didn't you!?!

There's Carol, the orange dot just to the left of center. She's setting up our picnic site. On a small knoll where we can get a stellar view of the Lake and the Airfield.

We hadn't been there too long before a man mentioned seeing some eagles and then, in response to Carol's questions, he pointed out one of them. I quickly grabbed my camera and took this shot.

Imagine our surprise when we got back home and downloaded the pictures and saw that it wasn't just ONE eagle, but TWO!!

BONUS!!

What a kick, eh?

We kept our eye on the eagle but continued to enjoy the view of the Lake. Here's the Lake with the Trailer Park Marina just to the left.

And this was just a nice shot…of the Marina, Mercer Island and the Cirrus Clouds.

It was a nice day for pictures and I got this one of a slightly chilled Carol. The wind coming across the Lake got sorta cool and she had to put on her sweatshirt. A windy, blustery day.

S-T-R-E-T-C-C-C-C-C-C-H!!

Let's see how tall you can be. Playing with the Ultra-Wide Angle Lens.

Hahahaha, why grow up when it is so much fun acting like a kid?

Carol got this shot of me feeding the ducks and the seagulls some bread. Every so often Tubby gets his picture taken.

DE PLANE, BOSS!!

DE PLANE!!

There was a lot of traffic today and some new wrinkles in our routine, other than the eagles.

First, they were landing from the North today. Normally they land from the South and take off to the North.

Secondly, they must have had school today because there were a lot of landings that never happened. They'd come in and buzz the strip and then grab some air again and go-around again.

We had a lot of activity today.

Oh, and also there were some new aircraft on the field today. Well, new for us. You'll see.

Back to the Lake and the glassy smooth water.

This was taken right on the edge of the park where it butts into the Lake. This is looking South toward the City of Renton. You can see the Boeing Plant buildings on the left there. In the foreground is the Post/Rogers Monument commemorating the site where they took off on their ill-fated flight.

The grassy area is the park and you can see the landing strip running North to South.

See the trucks just to the left of the Monument? They're designed just to retrieve the Seaplanes from the Lake and park them and vice-versa. They just have two wheels…the rear end is cut off completely. They're really handy in moving those Seaplanes. Evidently they're just parked there and the keys are always left in them.

Hmmmmmmm…no, I better not.

What can I say? The water lilies were out and I took some pics.

Sue me!!

More planes.

I'm gonna call this one a wobbly student. Reason why should be obvious, right? Lots of landings today. A busy Airfield day.

This Seaplane was moored by the pier next to the park and was there when we arrived. Later, near when we left a Seaplane landed and the pilot got a truck and then parked the plane and came running back. He hopped into this plane and was gone from sight within five minutes.

Strange operation.

Another Seaplane taking off.

I never tire of watching them. Oh, we saw another yellowish-orange Seaplane arrive, Customs come out and five people showing their passports to them. Seems they go up to Canada for a day…hunting or fishing or something. Cush job for a Customs agent.

Incoming, fake a landing and off again. Repeat…several times.

And, always, we kept an eye out for our eagle. The tree he lit in was a good distance away from us and I took this and then cropped and blew it up so it appears grainy because of that.

But you can see his wicked beak.

We met a woman at the park who lives in one of the apartments just up the road. She said she's seen five eagles in the tree. Seems there is a Momma, a Poppa and three little Eaglets. Their nest, according to the woman, her name is Fran, was on the other side of the Lake near Coulon Park.

They would fly over this way, light in the trees and then do their hunting. Mom and Dad were teaching them how to survive.

ARTSY-FARTSY ALERT!!

Hahahaha, I can't help myself. It looked good and I took it.

Again, SUE ME!!

Hahahaha...

It was a beautiful Great American Northwest kinda day.

Lazing on my blanket watching the planes land and take off.

Then we hear this guy. This was the first time I've seen a jet at this airport. Everything prior to this was a prop job. This was a first for us to see this jet getting ready to take off.

Then, a while later, we saw this guy coming in for a landing.

"What the…!?!"

We had just seen our first jet and now…another!!

And, BAM!! Just like that another jet rolled out!!

They just wouldn't stop!!

Hahahaha, from none to three. What a day.

After that third jet, we couldn't take anymore excitement.  Whew, we were emotionally drained. So we began to pack up to go home.

This is a shot of the tree where the eagles were when we first spotted them. The large tree to the left of center. From our vantage point the eagles were just black blobs in the tree.

Thank goodness for that EXTREME zoom lens. It really reached out for me.

Then we were standing by the Mini before we left and Carol spotted these two guys in a different tree.

A plethora of eagles today.

And jets.

Eagles, Jets, Turkey Burgers and Chicken Hot Dogs…

Mmmmmmm, what a good day.

Life is good.

Hooah!!!
